Earth Moving
Here’s an Earth Moving story for you! Rocks, stone slabs, concrete pipe, rubble and clay tiles. Plus a forest of brambles, rotting wood and enough plastic and glass to open a recycling centre. It’s all been cleared and moved this week at a nossa Casa Grande.

We’re clearing a huge mound area to the side of the casa. The mound consists mainly of stone and rubble from various parts of the collapsed house outbuildings. But there’s also evidence that other rock and rubble has been dumped on the site over the years and left to grow over. It’s been left like this for years so it’s covered in thick, deep rooted brambles. Not nice on the hands or lower legs!

The mound is currently in the way of where we are planning to place our septic system so it needs to be gone. And in the spirit of how we are working, being as eco friendly as possible, we’re sifting through all the rubble by hand and sorting it into materials to be reused for our numerous building projects.

Large stones and slate will be used for flooring and patio areas and also to rebuild the front area of the Casa.
Rubble is being collected for flooring hardcore, and we’re getting a healthy collection of wood together that will be chopped and stored for next winter.
The good thing is though that with all this manual work going on, it’s helping us to sleep realy well at night.
