Getting a NIF in Portugal

May 16, 2022 | Living in Portugal

If you want to buy anything in Portugal, you’ll need to get a NIF!

We quickly learnt this when we started the process of buying Casa Grande. Pretty much everything you buy in Portugal will require a Portuguese Tax ID, also known as the Número de Identificação Fiscal (or NIF for short).

As we found out and are still learning, Portuguese tax laws and systems can be complicated and confusing. Any reliable help you can get is really invaluable.

So, following a little online research, one of the first things we did was to employ the services of an online company called Bordr.

Kathleen and Richard, the entrepreneurial owners behind Bordr, have put together an exceptional service. Their NIF application process is slick and easy to understand. You are assigned a Fiscal Representative as part of the service and we actually had our NIF numbers sent to our inbox within 2 days!

Exceptional Service from Bordr

We cannot recommend the Bordr service highly enough. It really was first class and a year on, the Bordr team continues to provide a friendly and professional service.

For us, moving to Portugal was really exciting but can also be daunting. With language barriers and a lack of knowledge on how processes work, we found that getting things done easily and quickly can be confusing and difficult to understand.

Bordr cleared the way on all fronts giving us the piece of mind to get on with the many other things that we needed to do so we could move to beautiful Portugal.

You can use this link to apply for your NIF and other services offered by Bordr and receive $10 off any order.

OK, let's hear it!

We have so much to learn, discover and enjoy here in beautiful Portugal.
